ABOUT HAITI

It seems like much has changed since I went to Haiti in 2015. As a high schooler, I was painfully naive and unaware of the political, historical, and cultural situation in Haiti. I traveled to volunteer and spent ten days in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and the surrounding areas bouncing between local churches, schools, and communities.

 

As always, I encourage you to do your homework before volunteering with any agencies and try to get as many perspectives as possible related to the ethics of volunteer tourism. I know I have made mistakes while traveling and have learned a lot and am still learning how to be a more conscious traveler! I would also like to acknowledge that Haiti is now on a Level 4 DO NOT TRAVEL advisory, so please do not visit this country. Out of respect for the communities I visited, I am not going to share personal photos with identifiable information included, but rather the environment.
