RHODE ISLAND

ABOUT RHODE ISLAND

This quaint little state situated in the eastern region of the United States is one of my absolute favorites. With a peaceful beach town energy, I could easily spend endless amounts of time resting and recuperating from life’s chaos in this state. Paired with the natural beauty of the northeastern region of America, Rhode Island has a little something for everyone. When my mom and I traveled here for a girl’s trip to Massachusetts and Rhode Island, we found it very easy to reach Plymouth from Boston via car. If you have ever seen the tv show Haven, that is exactly the kind of vibe this area had. We loved our time in Plymouth, even in the off-season during November.

Travel Tips - Rhode Island

Lodging

Your accommodation options can vary greatly depending on where you stay in Rhode Island. Some great booking platform options I would recommend looking into are Airbnb, Expedia, and VRBO for booking your lodging. When we were in Newport, we stayed at Hotel Viking as recommended by The Blonde Abroad. We LOVED our stay here and found it to be the perfect level of quirky, quaint, and luxurious! The location was fantastic, and all of the staff was incredibly amicable. I would highly recommend this location for your next trip to Newport, Rhode Island!

Transportation

Similar to factors for accommodation, where you are wanting to travel within a state will vary greatly depending on whether it is more rural or urban. Keep in mind, the United States is incredibly large! Our public transportation here in America is nowhere near up to the standards of Europe – we have limited trains, metros, and it is almost impossible to walk anywhere. There is a reason there are countless memes about Europeans determined to walk here in the U.S. walking underneath interstates and alongside highways. I would STRONGLY urge you against this. Some suggestions I have would be to book a rental car with Hertz or Enterprise. Google Maps is a great navigating tool for your trip to the United States.

Activities

There is no shortage of incredible things to do in Rhode Island but here are some of my favorites:

  • Enjoy a stay at the Hotel Viking

  • Walk along the picturesque streets of Newport

  • Get a taste for Europe at the Breakers Museum
